Sundei Smith
Writer • Advocate • Proofreader
Born and raised in Pasadena, California, and the eldest of six, Sundei is a writer and advocate who transforms lived experience into encouragement for others.
Early Life & First Loves
Growing up as the oldest child of a country boy and a southern belle, Sundei watched her sisters and brothers find their talents early. Her own artistic spark ignited in middle school, when books and writing became a refuge and a way to navigate life’s realities.
Setbacks & Detours
Like many teens, her early pages were picked apart and misunderstood. A mentor even told her she would never be a writer. The sting of those words led her to put the pen down. She explored other paths, earning a B.A. in Healthcare Administration, building a career, and starting a family with her best friend—welcoming three beautiful children.
Even while she stepped away from her own manuscripts, the love of language never left. She proofread her cousin’s screenplays and books, and was regularly tapped to craft flyers and articles at work. Still, her personal writing remained on pause.
Resilience & Reawakening
Sundei weathered some of the hardest years of her life—navigating a difficult relationship with the father of her children, raising them, and doing the work of healing. Many years later, while preparing interviews about women impacted by domestic violence, she found both the push and the support she needed to write again.
“Silenced pages don’t stay quiet forever—when the heart heals, the voice returns.”
Today
Now living with her children and fiancé, Sundei is reading, writing, and using her voice to support women and men who have experienced—and are experiencing—domestic violence. Through storytelling, proofreading, and advocacy, she helps others feel seen, validated, and empowered to heal.
